Ohio parents seeking to modify a pre-existing child support order have one of two options:
- They can file a motion to modify the order with the appropriate court; or
- They can submit a request to the appropriate Child Support Enforcement Agency (“CSEA”).
In order for a family law judge in Ohio to grant the motion, the movant must show that there has been a “substantial change”, such as a change in the parent’s income which would result in at least a 10 percent change to the ordered amount of child support when said child support is recalculated under the Child Support Guidelines. The court may order a hearing after the motion is filed to allow the movant to present evident to support their request for modification of the pre-existing child support order.
